True story: on the night train from Paris to Rome, we had a family with a sick or unhappy baby in the car next to us.

All through the night, the train would pick up speed between cities, with the rocking motion putting the infant to sleep. As soon as we'd slow down or stop in a small town, though, the baby would holler again. This happened ten or twelve times. In hindsight it was pure comedy (if not to the baby itself); at the time, it felt like "No Exit".

Thanks for posting these details and photos about your trip. I love train travel and have always wanted to take a long cross-country trip with the sleeper cars. I will want to keep checking in to see your final verdict!
