3rd-party logins: Use Twitter, not Facebook by jgn on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in Technology and Annoyance

I was thinking about voting for a friend's app on Mashable, and I just want to note something about logging in to an app via Twitter vs. Facebook.

Use Twitter. Twitter has almost no metadata about you. If you log in, the target app gets to know almost nothing about you. Facebook, on the other hand . . . Well, these apps can't resist asking for a lot of permissions. E.g., below is what Mashable wants. Are you freaking kidding me? No way. No, you can't know my birthdate. It's over. I'm not giving people permission to graze me and/or put shit into my profile or statuses.
